Corrosion Testing

Chrysler's North American accelerated corrosion facility is located at the company's Chelsea, Michigan, Proving Grounds. The facility utilizes some of the largest test chambers in North America and is one of the first in the automotive industry to take full advantage of the latest computer technology.

The state-of-the-art facility's computers accurately replicate the environmental elements found in the North American salt belt, in the northern United States and Eastern Canada, where roads are salted to combat ice and snow. In 24 weeks, the test chambers simulate 10 years of real-world driving exposure to the type of severe weather conditions that aggravate corrosion.

The Corrosion facility has three corrosion chambers available to perform corrosion testing for full vehicles and components.  We provide consistent, controlled corrosion test in accordance with SAE J2334 standards.   The facility also includes a drive through splash trough / halo spray.

In addition to an accelerated corrosion environment the proving ground durability roads provide critical inputs to create opportunity to initiate the corrosion process.
